Fire Aid Academy has been chosen by the Solent based ferry operator, Red Funnel, as its dedicated onboard safety and fire training provider.
Having successfully provided Red Funnel Group, which incorporates the Red Funnel passenger, car and cargo ferries plus the high-speed Red Jet ferry service, with safety and fire training for its crew, the two businesses have now confirmed further bespoke training courses until May 2020, with further courses anticipated beyond this date.
Red Funnel’s Marine Officer, Voirrey Blount, commented, “With passenger and staff safety as our top priority, it is essential for Red Funnel to source and provide best-in-class safety training to our crew on an ongoing basis. Fire Aid Academy delivers top-quality and bespoke fire safety training solutions, which are specifically tailored to our business requirements and give us the confidence that our team will be able to handle any emergency situations.”
Commencing Autumn 2019, Red Funnel’s crews will be attending numerous courses each month at Fire Aid’s purpose-built academy in Hythe near the Red Funnel’s home port of Southampton.
These include STCW Update Training in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting being the mandatory course required of anyone working onboard a vessel, and which is approved by the MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) . In addition, some Red Funnel crew will also attend the STCW PSCRB (Proficiency In Survival Craft And Rescue Boats – other than fast rescue boat) course, for those who are crew or coxswain of a commercial craft’s rescue boat.
Fire Aid’s clients include the National Oceanography Centre (NOC), the superyacht MY Nerissa, Red Jet ferry, plus MSC and Costa cruise line operators.
