SLATER SCHOLARSHIP

If you are a British professional who lives in the UK and works as crew on a workboat, yacht or cruise ship, or are an Electro Technical Officer (ETO), and wish to study for the STCW Officer of the Watch, deck or engine qualifications, then the Slater Scholarship may be of assistance with your training fees. Consideration is also given to those who already hold the Class 2 or Class 1 Fishing ticket and are looking to convert to the OOW Unlimited. https://www.marine-society.org/slater-scholarship

HANWAY SCHOLARSHIP

The scholarship is primarily aimed at seafarers who need to take qualifications essential to work at sea, to support seafarers with their continuing professional development where there is no support from their employer/ship owner, or for those who do not qualify for a Slater Scholarship

Eligibility: British seafarers, resident in the UK, 21 years old and over. Priority will be given to those who need to take a course that is essential to work at sea.

You’ll get up to £500.

INTEREST FREE LOANS

Interest-free loans up to £2,000 may be available from the Marine Society, to help offset the costs of attending vocational courses or studying at colleges for professional advancement.

Loans are only granted for courses directly related to the maritime industry.

MEF GRANTS

The Maritime Educational Foundation (MEF) provides various rating and officer development opportunities, including grant-funding support to eligible unemployed seafarers to update their skills and/or revalidate specific certification requirements to increase their employability potential through defined training.

The eligibility criteria for MEF grants are available for unemployed Merchant seafarers across all ranks, and who are UK and EEA Nationals resident in the UK. The grant amount is dependent upon the individual’s circumstances and specific courses of interest.
