Following Red Funnel’s recent announcement that in response to the current heath challenge, Red Funnel is offering passenger ferry services to those who can remain in their cars, Fire Aid Academy is continuing to work with its staff in providing essential safety training as its dedicated onboard safety and fire training provider.

Fire Aid was appointed Preferred Safety Provider by the Red Funnel Group last year, having successfully provided the Red Funnel Group with safety and fire training for its crew over previous years. Since then, Red Funnel’s crews have regularly attended numerous specificay tailored courses each month at Fire Aid’s purpose-built academy in Hythe near Red Funnel’s home port of Southampton.

These courses include STCW Update Training in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, being the mandatory course required of anyone working onboard a vessel, and which is approved by the MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) . In addition, some Red Funnel crew will also attend the STCW PSCRB (Proficiency In Survival Craft And Rescue Boats – other than fast rescue boat) course, for those who are crew or coxswain of a commercial craft’s rescue boat.

Chris Rowley, Head of Training at Fire Aid, comments, “As Red Funnel Group can attest in their provision of an uninterrupted life-line to those on the Isle of Wight, it is essential for academies such as Fire Aid to provide courses, to enable seafarers to continue to work safely and legally on vessels.”

Fire Aid’s clients also include the National Oceanography Centre (NOC), superyacht MY Nerissa, plus MSC and Costa cruise line operators.
